L’Iceberg

L’Iceberg gets 4 dawgs I loved this movie!!! It is subtitled and I believe it is french. It is the story about a woman who gets locked in the meat freezer at work. Well, her whole family does not even notice she is gone. She is beside herself at this realization. So, she leaves on a trip. She gets on a bus with a bunch of towns people who welcome her in. She finds a man with a sail boat and they create a bond. They are on a mission to find something specific. I don’t want to give it away.

I never knew the french were soo funny! Well, I really laughed at this movie and was entertained. I loved the story, the performances and the some what slapstic nature of it. I encourage everyone to get it. It is off beat and just what the doctor ordered.

Happy movie goer this time round, Big Dawg Lenny

Sweet Land

Sweet Land gets 4 dawg’s from me. I loved this movie!

It stars ELIZABETH REASER as Inge Altenberg, TIM GUINEE as Olaf Torvik,
ALAN CUMMING as Frandsen, NED BEATTY as Harmo and JOHN HEARD as Minister Sorrensen.

This is a story about Inge coming to America from Germany to marry an American Olaf. She can not speak English and we are at war with Germany. She has no papers and problems ensue with her and Olaf getting married. The town is suspicious as to who she really is. There is a lot of anti-German sentiment and she is not welcome. Olaf can speak German but he is the only one.

Minister Sorrensen spews bigotry on the pulpit and helps to ostracizes them from the community. Olaf and Frandsen are best friends. Frandsen has about 8 kids and owns a farm. Harmo is the banker who is on his back continually threatening to take his goods away. Olaf and Inge must farm the land alone as no town’s people will come to there aid. Both men are met with serious conflict with farming , friendship and holding on to family.

I liked this movie mostly because there was not a lot of dialouge. Elizabeth is one of my favorite actresses and she puts in such a great performance. She is able to touch you by conveying a lot through emotion and daily experiences. Some may say it runs a little slow but I found it to captivate and pull me in. I really liked this movie, the story and the performances by everyone. I highly recommend it. Put it on your net flix list.

Needed to hear that!

Friday, April 18th, 2008

Well, I have been listening to some of my Joyce Myers again. Of course, hearing some stuff I don’t want to. Like attitude matters and rising up past the fray is a daily surrender and action. I think I have been going through this phase where I was so tired of being the bigger person that I was throwing in the towel. It is so easy to get back in to negative attitudes, poor me heady conversation and why should I? But, then I realize this alternative makes me feel even worse.

I think coming up higher is a choice. Those of us who grew up in dysfunctional house holds, especially my generation, already have the people pleasing problem. I think getting a handle on good boundaries is really helpful when we start answering the call of God. I have come a long way from my first walk when I thought I had to be hugging every person I passed. I thought I had to listen to every story and be concerned about all the content. In my family we were taught others were more important then we were. I spent a lot of my life over valuing people in loss of myself. It has been hard not to be angry about that. I am finally changing that dynamic but it is hard and timely. Most of our embedded thoughts and actions don’t change in a day. It is a process and work like everything else.

I am learning when God calls us it is not a chore because we act through him. It is right to be kind and thougtful but boundaries are an important piece of self love and actualization.

As with any thing, we grow in our spirtuality also. I think I have been in the valley for awhile thinking things through. I was not exactly sure what the answers were. I realize the more I take care of myself and listen to my inner wisdom I do a better job of walking out my daily spiritual path. Don’t lose sight of Christ but make sure you are doing it from the right place and not a should. It is an on going learning and with each step we get a little more profiecient.

Seek Not Outside Yourself

Friday, April 11th, 2008

The Course reminds us not to look outside ourselves for it will fail us every time. All idols fail and we create them. We use the idol in place of true Heaven and the real Creator God. We create a God of this ego world in His place.

The Course stipulates that we come here because we are still determined to find something outside of ourselves. If all is inside of us, how can something outside of us exist? This sets up an illusion that we are what we are not. The body exists to aid in seeking what we think we lack. The only lacking is found inside this illusion.

All idols we create are used to hid the truth from ourselves. We will not find peace in the worship of idols. Don’t be fooled though all things we create have power and are not easily lost. Disappointment can only ensue when looking to this world to find peace and solution.

We must admit we have no understanding of the purpose of this world. We give it the goals and agendas; thus, saying what this world is. An idol can not take the place of God no matter how much we convince ourselves otherwise. Time is for the action of leaving this world behind for the world of Truth. Surrender the idols you have created to the true creator. It is through true sight we will become whole.
